Who Me?
I sometimes say to friends that I may not be the film maker that I thought I'd be at 42, but at least I'm the photographer that I want to be. I'd, actually, say that I'm the artist that I want to be. Having studied film at Northwestern University, the instructors challenged us to always ask the theoretical and practical how's and why's of our projects. This rigor permeates all that I do both individually and professionally.
No matter what I do, I always try to instill my own personal aesthetic. I really don't see it any other way. Sometimes this has gotten me into trouble because of my idealism. Again, I can't see it any other way. I truly believe in art and its power to provoke and inspire myself, others, and the world. Without pursuing ART (and its complement, science) we as a society are potentially nothing more than slaves to a system of pure financial gain, over consumption and political corruption.
