I failed piano in junior high.  I could not even play the daunting classic "Tea for Two".  In class, I'd poke and bash at the keyboard to no avail.  Instead of failing me, the teacher took pity on me and gave me a "C".  She did point out though, I was one of the worst students she ever had. 

Such was my failure.

Failure to learn a musical instrument is one of those humbling experiences in my life. I've relegated it to my own cobweb attic of attempted but failed interest -- much like learning a second language.  I failed both Hebrew and Spanish -- even, initially, English was not my forte.  Sad to say, my parent thought I was retarded because I did not talk until I was close to two years old.  They took me to a doctor.  He said, "He's fine. He's just observing.  He'll talk when he's ready. He's a late bloomer."  Soon after, I started to talk and have not stopped since.

Blooming late seems to be the story of my life.  But hey, better late than never.  I'm happy to say, I am, finally, tackling some of my fears.  For example, I've decided to develop and write a movie script, even though I fear the process of writing.  Now with the wonders of Apple software, GarageBand, I am conquering music.  OK, I still can't play the piano but at least I can place a piano loop on a music track and mix it with an egg shaker loop.  GarageBand is just so much damn, FUN!  Using GarageBand is similar to film editing software where you lay picture and audio on to any number of tracks, in order to construct and edit a cohesive story.  GarageBand is only different in that you use audio only to construct a musical composition.  So with GarageBand, I have in a sense an instrument I understand.  I still want to learn to play an actual musical instrument but until then, GarageBand will be my musical instrument of choice.  ENJOY!
